If you think you " need " some sort of tool to tighten them, well you need to build up some muscles or take it to a shop.
Hand tight means hand tight, not hand tight then use a tool to tighten more

I was close to using the screwdriver move but with how tight it is around the filter it stopped me and I was determined to get it off by hand.

After having a shop change my oil halfway through a cross country road trip I could barely get the filter off when I changed my oil last month. I had both arms up in there with both hands on it, almost blowing up my shoulder in the process. Went got the heat gun and put it on the filter until the casing was starting to melt off. Was hot even through the gloves, but got the filter off.

Idiots should not be allowed near your car, but it's almost guaranteed over the lifespan of the vehicle.

On another note. Thump in front end has gotten bad, so I'm trying to figure out the course of action. Is the only way to diagnose it to take it apart?

^^those are the greatest.......I got about 6 of those in all different sizes in my tool box that I collected over the years for different vehicles. I also have another 5 or 6 other types of filter wrenches. Those cap wrenches are the absolute best by far that I have found.

As to my Jeep, I tighten by hand and put that cap wrench on and tighten only 1/4 of a turn.....no more. That's me. I never had a problem.

Many years ago I had a real nightmare with getting an oil filter off of a vehicle that some idiot put on.

It is a real rare occasion that anyone touches my Jeep anyway and only one shop I trust. They will get to put new tires on the pig soon.

Replaced ignition actuator yesterday.

The aftermarket Dorman part had a much beefier metal part that is broken there

installed both of towing wire harnesses but i have a dumb question. what is the blue wire on the complementary harness supposed to connect to?

And the third best kind is........I was changing my oil filter and had a sudden "spasm" and the oil filter got on there way too tight.....:gr_grin:


I need more coffee. Apparently I'm a couple of cups short of a load....

Hit a turkey with the Jeep yesterday while exploring back roads in Minnesota. Actually, it hit the Jeep.


No damage to the Jeep, but I did have to wash some blood off the passenger side door. I was only going about 15 mph, not sure how the bird didn't see the big silver bus:Insane:

Removed the mopar brushguard to mount up some ebay special led pods. Got them mounted wired and working just have to adjust the angle and clean up the wiring in the cabin.

Finished up the wiring and mounted my switch in its forever home. I have the switch wired to have a halo when on and no light when off looks really bright just the camera glare i guess.

Oil change and pcv valve. Yay how exciting. Also stuck the emblem of my '71 wagoneer on it, I'd pay a picture, but I'm better with wrenches than computers.
