What did you do to your jeep today?

New Heim Joints on the 03s JBA bolt on tri link this evening ,
this setup has about 80,000 or so it on it so was time, should help a LOT

Just remembered this is the preproduction setup I had on the 04 at first, so maybe a few more miles than that , the old ones were starting to get some wear for sure even though I kept them clean and sprayed all the time

jeepjeepster's adventures has given me the stones to consider doing my own gear swap, since I'll never find a set of 4.10 diffs that are setup from a 4-channel ABS liberty.

But doesn't the ABS system just tie into the brakes and not the diffs themselves ?

hmmm.
so you're thinking, I can transplant the brake lines and wiring between rear diffs?

Sealed the weld area on the passenger side under the wipers cowl and stopped a persistent water leak on the passenger side.

By Chance did you get photos from under the cowl of the weld area?
I also had a leak there. Did it look anything like this?

Windshield removed, more welding could have been done by factory..oops..

I wonder is this a robot brazing weld or was done manually hmm IDK. Does Anyone know what kind of weld this is?

Guess I got lucky! Mine was only at the weld below the windshield. Glad I caught it in time!

I am pretty sure Chrysler Jeep would have used Robotics to weld their vehicles...most manufacturers use them. These vehicles are usually checked by humans after the welding, glueing, painting etc. and problems could slip through the cracks in this process!

Ford/Mazda here in SA use Kawasaki Robots.

General Motors were using Fanuc robots from Japan...they liked them so much that GM bought out Fanuc Robotics to form GMFanuc.
I worked on these robots...they were being used in a Mainframe Computer envirement loading tapes into tape drives...lovely Robots!

GM uses these Robots here in SA to build their vehicles.

ABB Robots also common here as are KUKA.

I also worked on an old Westinghouse Robot doing the same thing with computer tapes..a gear driven old technology robot that was very in-accurate!

Then a Bosch Industrial Robot also loading tapes...a good product!

Probably about 90% of Robots are made in Japan...I believe KUKA was recently sold to China and ABB is a Swiss company but I do not know if they actually make them there.

I loved working on those Robots and when the GMF robots started to get phased out I seriously thought about buying them from the company I worked for so as to set up a factory to cut, weld and paint Security Doors and Windows once I retired!

Trouble shot a P0442 Evaporative Emission Small Leak code. Found and replaced two cracked emission vacuum rubber lines just under the driver's side frame. Most of the lines under and along the frame are metal but at this location there are two rubber hoses connecting metal lines about 4" long. GTG now!

Yes they did use robotics
When Tony ( from Spain ) and I toured the Toledo plant it was great to see the machines picking up body panels, welding them together etc
They were building the KK and Nitros at that point , one one side of the plant. other side was Wranglers
KKs were more fun to watch being built though

I remember Tony well from the Lost Forum....TonyCRD.
He had the same Export 2.5 L fixed Turbo Manual CRD that I had although his was a LHD!

We had a lot of discussions that helped both of us get to know our Jeeps better....he dropped off Lost when he sold his Jeep.

Tony was convinced that our early Export CRDs came from the Plant fitted with in-tank fuel pumps...we never had the problems that the USA models had. Eventually he checked into it and found that likewise we did not have pumps either!

Did the first fix on the 06 yesterday, fogs and headlights where terribly oxidized. Sanded and polished them down with a 3M kit with the drill attachment, waiting on my UV resistant clear coat to arrive in a couple days, then I'll re-polish the top layer again and clear coat them.

I'm shopping around for front tow hooks. Looks like I can get factory hooks pretty easily. Is there a better option?

Other than that, I've been wheeling every day. The job site got muddy, rutted up, and now it's frozen.

New wiper blades all around / replacement spare tire cover (JEEP - the e's are dog foot prints - for the wife) / error-free LED bulbs interior and 3rd brake light (BRIGHT interior for these old eyes) / replacement hood and rear window shocks/struts (boy are they hard to close when new).

Finished rebuilding my NP-231J transfer case out of the liberty. Next is axle bearings in the rear, as I can hear one acting up already. All I need to attach is the front driveshaft yoke, but need a 28MM socket for that.
