So as I was driving home tonight I realized that the light level of the odometer was dimmer than usual, and the dimmer switch for the dash and such suddenly no longer works. Wtf? Would a fuse cause the switch to stop working? Because all the lights in the cabin work, but the switch won't turn them all on anymore, and the odometer light only gets bright again after I turn off the headlights. Nothing else seemed dim, just that. Headlights and light bar on the top were fine. Gonna check out the fuse box tomorrow.

Fuse isn't the problem, the switch itself is. It isn't known to be particularly durable at all. My '04's Broke, so did my sister's '05. There's no real point in getting it replaced, IMO... because it's just going to break again.

Okay but what about the odometer light dimming when the dashboard lights are on now? That's driving me insane. Is that part of the switch problem or maybe just a coincidence?

Mine has been bad for some time. It runs my battery down from time to time by turning the inside lights on while the Jeep is sleeping.

Been needing to replace it.. :)

Maybe that's what caused the extra drain on my battery the Advance Auto guy found when I was testing to see if the alternator was bad...hmm...

I'm surprised it broke where it did. The stalk controls the instrument panel dimming/brightening. Usually the headlight switch portion breaks and you might occasionally notice your headlights turn on and off real quick. Blink and you'll miss it.

those things suck ,stalk switches
The one in the TJ is bad and the fog lights will just come one when it gets hot
solution
disconnect both fog lights and sell them to an XJ owner for $50
problem solved and I have an extra $50

I dunno. Only thing dimmer is that digital mileage number. Everything else is fine. Only time the headlights flicker/dim is if I turn on the air conditioning or the heater.
