So why?

For me, at 32 when I bought my 06 (sport, black) back in January 07...it was just the best thing I could have bought that fit me and how I live. My wife had an 02 (used 49k) and it grew on me. I have always tried to stay out of debt and never even thought obout buying a new vehicle. Ive drove a 70 F100 since 1994 and have loved it, but still i always wanted atleast 1 new car before I died. So after a beater of a work car died on me, it was either drive my old truck again everyday (bore) or get something else. So i dove in and got me a brand new 06 Liberty. I mountain bike alot and hike, camp alot, so 4 wheel drive is nice at times and I also love to go riding in the mountains where I live. i just couldnt find anything better than the Liberty for what I needed. I was thinking of getting a Wrangler first, but didnt due to the smaller interior and also the drafty interior. My old Ford was very cold to ride in in the winter...so i got the Liberty since it was very comfortable to me and didnt leak cold air everywhere and was just all around mean looking if built up right later on.

What about you??

Benn driving one Jeep or another for the last 25 years, the ZJ was starting to cost money to keep going, and a Wrangler was (1) too small inside, and (2) not a CJ.

I like my "Brick" but not the mpg, although slightly better than the ZJ.:)

Jeeps are just for me. My lifestyle requires something that is rugged and can take me where I want to go. Its drivetrain is crude, simple, and I can fix/work on most all of it in the driveway. It doesnt have alot of electronics(ABS, Traction control crap) so I dont have to worry about longer term problems with those, its safe, been reliable so far, and looks awesome. Personally when I park in a parking lot I do not see another vehicle that I would rather be in.

Someday I will own a 'car' just to save gas and such but you will always see me with a Jeep. I was raised in a Jeep so most all my memories of vacation and camping are in a Jeep. Its just part of me.

I've only had mine a little over 2 weeks. But what drew me to it was; only having a 2 door car and lacked room when I went tailgating for football games and lacked the ability to carry more than 1 passenger in comfort. I also work at a water treatment plant, which is one of the reasons I wanted 4 wheel drive; we work regardless of the weather. It will also be nice when I go hiking and camping.
I wanted a small SUV, bigger than what I was used to but not too big. I looked at Xterras as well but just ended up not liking how they rode and lack of room which my 6 foot frame had in the front seat of the xterras. So I ended up deciding on a Liberty. So far I'm happy with my choice.

Out in B.C we dont get that much good weather, we get a lot of rain and wind being close to the ocean and can get some good amount of snow. So to me i needed a vehicle that could handle these conditions well with good ride comfort and didnt look ugly lol.

the first week i had my jeep i had already went on two mini road trips to the beach and some old camp grounds and was very happy with it, plenty of room for all mine and my gf's stuff and very comfortable for long drives.

We bought ours for several reasons
1 they stopped making the XJ
2 it rode better than the TJ
3 my wife wanted a new jeep with all the options and I wanted 4wd

we still have the TJ and it is the best off road
but the KJ is by far better on road and for the next year or so will be fine but we do plan to get some thing that can tow the TJ

I was looking for something small, 4x4, rear wheel drive, good towing capability (for Pop-Up Camper), and NOT a cross-over vehicle....HAD TO HAVE A TRANSFER-CASE... rockon.gif

Just so happens...the LIBERTY had everything I needed....

So far I love it....(going on 2 months now.)

OH...AND I WANTED TO BE ABLE TO LIFT IT IN THE FUTURE...which is impossible with most other small 4x4's out there without having lots of extra $ laying around.

I used to drive 2 door, low-to-the-ground cars everywhere. Thats all I would buy. Then after getting hit by a 16 year old driver who really didn't like stopping at red stop signs, I decided I needed some protection around me. I also wanted 4x4 with good looks.

First 4 WD that I bought was in 73 ...a Jeep of course, since then have had at least one 4WD in the driveway, including new and old, my 95 Cherokee had 265000 on it and needed something new, started looking and pricing and bought the Liberty, never even drove one until after I signed the papers. Had to have 4 doors due to taking my parents different places etc. Only thing that I would trade it for would be a original uncut 70/71 Bronco, but I still love Jeeps!

1.) It's a Jeep

2.) It's easy to work on

3.) It looks good even when I don't have time to clean it

4.) It's up high like a truck

5.) I can still park ANYWHERE

That's OK. There is a mac forum I post on where I was "warned" by an admin for "using profanity" under similar circumstances. I don't think he ever actually read my post.

Basically, all the reasons mentioned. I had one SUV before ('96 Bronco) and loved it. I was driving a '99 Grand Prix that I absolutely LOVED (it wasn't stock at all!), but I hit a crossroads...

...the wife has a '05 G6, so we have another car. The trans in the Prix was giving me some crap, and it needed some TLC (suspension, etc). It was barely starting to bubble in the rear wheelwells. Could have used some detailing/repainting as well (not horrible, but I am picky).

In total, if I dumped $3k-$4k it'd be like a new car and I'd keep on going with it. But, I am 26 and married, I have a house. The car is cool, but I'd like a 4x4 in case of emergency in MI winters. I wanted something with more cargo room as we have two little dogs and take some trips around the state quite often. Lastly, I realized that the Prix was worth $5k with 130k on it (and that's what I sold it for), and if I held on to it it'd rust in the fenders in one more winter and require repair or a much lower cost to sell it later.

So, this past summer I dumped it. I was planning on a Patriot in the interest of gas milage. I was all set that's what I would get, and then I sat in one for 3 seconds and said "no way". Horrible visibility and interior.

Wife really liked the KJ's. I liked the old XJ's, and truth be told, I HATED the Liberty since it's debut. At her prodding I sat in one and I was sold. I still think the looks are so-so, but I love the vehicle despite that.

I liked that it was more rugged than a Patriot. I liked that the drivetrain is still basically simple (no VVT or CVT). I know it'll last me years and it'll take whatever I throw at it. The final factor was that I found a sport with the select-trac tcase (MAJOR point for me!!!),tow package, off-road package, and 29C in Jeep Green in a local dealer's inventory. That told me it was meant to be ;) I wasn't really ready to buy yet, I was hoping to defer that for a couple of months, but I jumped on it.

It's like a Beavis & Butthead skit...

"Sit in the pa$$enger seat"
"Huh, huh-huh, you said a$$, huh, huh-huh,huh"

I got my KJ cheap, because it has a salvage title. It rides & handles better than the WJ we had. Plus after spending $25,000 on the new WJ, the wife had fits if I even drove over a street curb. After paying only $12,000 on the KJ 5 years ago, when a non-salvaged KJ went for $20,000, she doesn't complain when I use it as a Jeep!
