additives in every tank decreases mileage. While I agree that fuel system cleaners work well when used at oil change intervals to help keep the system clean, it doesn't make sense for every tank. Even if it saves mileage, you aren't going to save enough in mileage to offset the cost of the additive.

Plus a lot of additives are ******* O2 sensors and cause them to fail prematurely.

The Scangauge works intermittently, normally about 15-20 minutes, occasionally much longer and then it locks up - doesn't come back until you turn the engine off/on,

The main point is never use cruise control with the Scangauge plugged in - it overloads the buss, confuses the computer and it'll kick out of overdrive.

Yeah, my limited understanding is that the CRD's computer bus didn't hold up to the constant polling that the Scangauge does. Causes the whole PCM to lock up or something.

Geeesh - so much hostility, Joe likes his Jeep and he likes good mileage - why is that a problem?
if the mirrors really bother you - you can get motorcycle sport mirrors that meet the laws - they're standard for hypermiler folks.
Diesel additives are to improve the Cetane rating - it always improves mileage the key balancing it so that you don't pay more for the additive than you get from the mileage improvement.
Lots of folks run 40psi in tires - 45 isn't that far away - it's a lot better than the 'max the sidewall number that's been mentioned a few times, you can check the wear with a chalk test in about 10 minutes.
If I want to run 60 - I have to stick to back roads - the Interstates are 75-80mph - even the slow trucks in the right lane are faster than that - but if I have time the back roads are more fun anyway.

They're suggestions - if you don't like them - don't do them.

(FYI - I can get photos of my scangauge saying 9999 - that doesn't mean I can average that for the tank)

if he didn't jump in on every 3.7 mileage discussion with how great his CRD mileage is, people probably wouldn't care.

In the PA the Highest Limit here is 65. i normally travel 5 to 8 miles above the limit. That's what staties allow before they pull you over. At times when I'm traveling at 80 I still get passed too :p

Yeah - I can try slow for a little while - but then you get down to I10 from San Antonio to El Paso - 500 miles and the scenery's really interesting for oh - at least 10 minutes - and then you realize why the limit's 80mph - and the little diesel loves to run ....and I'm not into Hypermiling.

I drive my KJ to go on our land and to my work (8 minutes drive). And i get my girlfriend to have a more economic car that still has some in it. My minimum requirement to drive a car or truck is 150 hp. If it doesnt have that i aint driving it, heck you drive your crap !
So she just went with the 2009 Pontiac Vibe with the bigger 2.4liters engine (165hp i think). So whenever we go out on a long trip, Vibe it is and all mpg talking is out the window.

I did manage 20 mpg with the cruise set on 80 comming through Georgia and the Carolinas on my last Florida trip. Cruised at 85 a little bit but mostly at 80. Nice flat highway with not much traffic. People were still passing me.

Around here you can't do that without getting pulled over.

Last time I was on I-4 (near Orlando) it was a big parking lot.

And on the way home, cruise set at or below 60 most of the way...

Guess what?
Saved 12 whole dollars on gas.
12 whole dollars.
And was only an hour later than ThunderbirdJunkie would have been had he been driving in a manner that DIDN'T piss everybody off. And probably spent an extra $3 in that extra hour on the road on Dr. Pepper and more cigarettes smoked.

Was getting passed uphill by semis.

Hypermiling is stupid.

12.00 every time out of the length of the time you own the vehicle is real money! So, you like throwing away money. That's cool. I dont.

Would you believe that I had to look up what Hypermiling meant!

I didn't realize that there was a name for those special folks that do
some of the stupidest and unsafe things with their vehicles just to
squeeze out an extra 0.10 th. of a Kilometer out of a gallon of fuel!

Tis interesting for sure,
Only one problem with hypermiling - it is hypopower, hypotorque but I say each to their own.
Some people get real kicks from truly amazing figures.
On the same bent, How much does a true wheel alignment gain you in terms of reducing rolling resistance....some of the folk committed to this are truly cluey....some, like some of us :D (speaking personally of course, and I think Ry wud fit into my group here) have a few 'roos loose in their top paddock.

I think you can do it if you chew your cud, wear a hat and squint while you drive ;)
Cheers
