I am finally getting around to installing my Eaton TT and 4.10 gears. I am getting very close on the pattern but would love someone to look at it for a second opinion, or third. I think I need to shim the pinion a little more to bring it closer to the ring gear. Backlash is at .007.

This morning I pulled it all apart and added .010 to the shim stack on the pinion. First set of pictures is with Backlash at a tight .006 and second pattern is with .008

Something I recently learned, its just as important to look at the pinion gear itself. The pattern should be near the center of the teeth.

Im no expert, but it almost looks like it was too shallow then you went a bit too deep.

Thank you for checking it out for me. I thought the same thing, to shallow and then to deep. Here is where I landed with the last adjustment. I think I am pretty close now

Here is patterns from service info. This is the front. There is a lot more info above in terms of setting it up, but this will help you with your patterns.

Thank you for this!
No problem. I don't do diffs often, so I find them more of an art than a skill. Make sure the end play and pre-load are good for the pinion as well (I'm sure you already know that). Test drive make sure there are no noises on the drive side (light throttle) and coast side (coast/light decel) of the teeth. If you hear almost like a resonating humming sound double check your pattern. In the case of mine that's just how it is, but it can also be bad pattern or pinion bearing too tight.

Will check this out for sure. Thanks again for the suggestions. This is first set for me. Have done lots of other mechanical work so am not afraid of it but first one is always an experience. I though I could just use the stock pattern for reference but turns out it was not beautiful so I wanted better.
