Broke it...

So now that I changed out the sensor I put it all back together and can't seem to get it from N back to 2 Hi. It was in N when I changed the sensor... Any thoughts?

Sensor doesn't affect the shifting of the transfer case. Just the little light on the dash board. I would check the transfer case shifter bushing but a better chance is that you need a little movement.

You might just need to get the jeep moving a bit to shift it. Make sure the Jeep is in Neutral when shifting in and out of Neutral/4LO.

Quick tip for the do it yourselfers. . . make sure you tighten the new transfer case switch all the way.

I replaced mine from underneath using a socket, it was tight but manageable and the hardest part is getting the electrical connector off. When tightening I was careful as I didn't want to strip or cross thread, when it got really snug I stopped. The dash lights weren't correct. Since this switch works on plunger type resistance its really sensitive to exactly how deep it sits (thought I'd need to tighten or loosen until it read correctly) Luckily I was able to tighten until it bottomed out and wouldn't turn anymore and the lights are now good.

Hope it helps.

Anyone with the NP242, does your Full Time indicator come on?

All my other indicators function properly and I'm some what certain that it is also in the correct 4x4 mode.
I've done the instrument cluster test and the FT indicator is still good.

Mine works. Used it earlier this week.

ah.....

Any thoughts to why my FT indicator doesn't come on?
I don't even see it flicker on while shifting through the different modes.

From this thread, it's just different resistance range depending on the position.

So since the instrument cluster test shows the bulb works, I'd say your switch is the culprit.

yeah....
I would still think I would be able to able to at least get the FT indicator to flash as I move it from part time to neutral.

Doesn't sound like something I would like to even replace if I'm not using much of it.

I wouldn't even bother and I use my FT often but I know where FT is. Don't need the light to tell me. My PT light will flicker every once in a while and I just ignore it. Does it for a few weeks and then not again for months.

Thanks for this "how to". Replaced mine yesterday with no problems. I did have to do it from the top and pull the center console. I have no idea how anyone can get a socket in there from the bottom. The console needed a good cleaning anyway.

Is this the same for a 2005 Jeep liberty? Hopefully somebody will reply because this is an old thread

Yes that is correct...

The t-case would be in 2HI with the "PART TIME" light on

And, when in 4HI the "PART TIME" light would be off

4LO worked fine

This is what I have going on now. Guess I'll have to do this swap.
Love this forum, and the "search" function actually worked for me this time:winner_third_h4h:

How did you manage to get a socket in there, even from the top? What size is that?

It's pretty big. Forget the size. But I went from behind the transfer case and contorted my arm in a pretty weird way. Make sure you pull the plug off first.

I need some help. My 2004 Liberty is dropping out of higher gear around 50 mph and entering Limp mode (3rd gear). This happens after ten minutes of normal driving in 2 HI. My part time light is intermittent, so I know the transfer gear sensor/switch is bad. Would this bad switch cause the Jeep to go into limp mode? The dealer says it will.
