The shop told me they welded the stud heads to the new top hat so they wouldn't work their way loose.

As I understand it, some of these spacer lifts require you to press out the OE top mount studs and press them into the lift kits' top mount plate, is that what they did here? And then so they didn't back out, they welded them?
First of all... that's beyond stupid. If you have properly torqued nuts on the other side, in the engine bay- where you access them- then it's impossible for them to work loose. They're torqued and sandwiched in there.
Freaking idiots working on your KJ bud.
Also, hold off on thinking about wheels until you can get this suspension thing sorted out.. I know wheels are fun and cool, but as it is with the extra stresses on your coil spring and other components, your Jeep is rather unsafe to drive as it is.
