Drove it to work.
Yes, I live about 2 blocks from work, but it was -19 (without the windchill) when I went in this morning. And just to make it worth it, I went to Kwik Trip for coffee
(so, technically, I drove about 1.5 miles to work....which is 2 blocks away....don't judge me)
That's cool, I drive just less than a mile to work on wet days, cuz riding a bike when it's wet leaves an unpleasant looking brown stripe up your back.

probably going to try and grease the ball joints again in a day or 2.
we're predicted for another winter storm in a couple days.

Getting plastic trim prepped for restoration and hopefully to be all matching one color.

Decided to cut the fog lights out and make the stock bumper a little more aggressive and pre-runner looking. Under spoiler lip came out also.

Cleaning both the bumpers and fender flares today and hopefully restoring them tomorrow.

Stay tuned for more shenanigans!

Doing10to20,

Based on how you babied your Liberty going up and down the ledges you might occasionally get a slight chirp when pulling into tight parking spots especially if you run a really soft or sticky MT tire.

You will not even know it's there daily driving, and the amount of time you spend the dirt you will kick yourself for not getting it sooner.

Also, before you get advice on the drivabilty of a detroit or lunchbox make sure they are from the desert and not the east of the Mississippi. Took me 10 minutes to get used to driving with a Detroit in Vegas and 10 months in New England.

Took her out for a drive in the Oklahoma snow the last 2 days. Did very well. Just have to figure out the heating issue but until then I ordered a 12v heater for her.

if it's like mine, unplug the A/C compressor in the engine bay.

That was going to be my next step but when I parked it inside the garage after a short ride I can smell the coolant. I’m afraid I’m going to have to change out the heater core. Just waiting for warmer weather to flush it first.

At least you cut it out right, seen way too many that they squared the corners off.
I always cut them for friends the way you did

The 03 is even trimmed more, lower 3 holes are gone , in their place is a JBA front skid

Nothing wrong with a DTT East of the Mississippi
I've ran them in Ford Pickups, 2 of my Early Broncos, all 3 of my XJs and in the 03 KJ which I use as my DD, have them front and rear
The 04 has DTT front and ARB rear
Ran one lunch box in one of my XJs, just bought the XJ brand new and guy gave it to me, only took a few days to determine why , was in less than a week, POS

Cleaned my battery terminals the other night, they were getting a nice deposit of corrosion.

Yesterday finally put my front tow hooks on. Thanks to the one thread I found here, figured out I didn't have to remove the bumper, et al, to put the M-bolts into the frame. Just had to be careful. One tip, cut the plastic cutouts before putting the tow hook on, hacksaw blade kept hitting the tow hook on the first one.

Drained some coolant out of the system, it was filled to the top of the pressure tank. Been having issues, and will detail those in a new thread (I've searched and just want to get input before I start replacing things.)

Get a Detroit Tru Trac, not a regular Detroit or even a Lunch box
Basically the differences


Detroit Tru track:
+ no clutches to wear out always works, works best for road race & street use.
- does not hold up well in high hp drag use.
+ Under normal light throttle driving conditions, a Truetrac operates much like a standard open differential, allowing the rear wheels to rotate at slightly different speeds for smooth cornering.
Detroit locker:
+ will give you a locked axle when given anything more that a light throttle. Good for drag race & off road use. Will always hit posi & will outlast the vehicle in most cases.
- can clunk when turning, will drag a tire in turns if on throttle, can feel very strange in short wheel base vehicles when the locker loads & unloads & reloads. more so at higher speeds
-When coasting or rolling through a corner (no torque applied), the unequal speed of the inside and outside wheels causes the unit to unlock momentarily, before abruptly locking when power is applied
-The Detroit Locker is best suited for off-road or severe track use where maximum traction is required, and quiet/smooth operation is less important.

Charged the battery.

And got the Autel Maxicom MK808. We may have weather nice enough to get it onto the Jeep on Sunday. More snow predicted for Saturday night, so maybe not.

I hope also on Sunday to get it up on jack stands and start on transfer case fluid, then transmission and front and rear differentials.

For refiling ATF the Maxicom ought to give me trans fluid temperature. I already have an ATF dip stick. And a filter and a Lubelocker gasket. Poor weather has kept me from doing much. It's supposed to be a little nicer Monday, but then next weekend, more snow predicted.

Today was nice enough to melt almost all the snow, but now mud has set in.

I'll have to see what else the Maxicom can do. And what it won't do. I want to look at key fobs and tpms.

Jacked up the rear end with the new Harbor Freight Daytona 3 ton jack. It weighs 80 lbs, so I also got a Harbor Freight hand cart to roll it around on. Also Walmart Torin Black Jack 3 and 6 ton jack stands.

Took off rear passenger wheel. Confirmed it does have a slow leak but no nail or other visible damage. Tightened the stem/sensor. I had already replaced the core which did not solve the problem.

I guess it could be the stem/sensor which needs to be re seated sealed. Or the mount.

I'd say it's down about 5 lbs in two weeks. I don't have a large enough tub to soak it in, but a leak that slow probably would not show any bubbles. No idea what's next. I had already got my spare tire (full size) down and found it to be shot. So maybe when I get a new spare I'll have them remount the rear passenger and do a reseal on the stem/sensor.

I also opened and drained the rear differential. And put in 2 1/2 quarts of Amsoil severe gear synthetic 75w-140.

And put a Lubelocker gasket on. (In the process, not afterwards).

On the (my) 2008 Liberty Limited there are two bars across the rear diff. that would make it rather difficult to get a wet rtv cover back on there without smudging the wet rtv all over everything down there. So I'm glad I had the Lubelocker ready to go. I didn't know they say it can be reused 6 times.

There was a good bit of sludge/tar in there. A pump would not get that out. So a reusable gasket is not a bad idea.

Weather was fair, got up to 52 which was nice, but then back down now to 41 which was not as nice.
