Had to pick up my passenger side rocker panel trim off the ground today. I wire brushed the rockers and came to the realization that I need new inner as well as outer rocker panels.

also got in the engine bay PDU block. I was right; the relays are in modules. So i'm going to scavenge one of the 40A relay blocks out of it, a couple bits of wire with the correct ends on it, integrate it into my PDU, and move around the needed wiring to put a relay in-line with the ABS pump power feed. That will give me the ability to completely turn on/off ABS/ESP/TC from inside the cab with the flick of a switch. Yea the dash will light up like a christmas tree when its disabled, but that doesn't bother me. of course now I wonder, do I need a light on the switch to tell me it's "active" (i.e. disabling stuff.) or at the very least, not make that light red.

going to put that switch in the spot where the factory put the renegade light bar switch.
thinking the words light up in green via the dimmer wire, and the symbol lights up in red when activated. switch will feed power into the engine bay, to the relay that'll be in-line with the ABS PUMP fuse. relay will be wired as NC, so that the failure mode of the relay doesn't disable the ABS pump.

eta: debating changing the switch body (haven't ordered it yet) to have it act as a ground for the relay, instead of sending power. would make wiring the relay easier, with giving the control circuit constant power from the PDU.

Drained and refilled the transfer case. Fluid black, and didn't seem to be much of it.

Drained front diff and am about ready to refill it, or .... tomorrow.

Transfer case, I probably got 3 1/2 quarts in there. The pump I had wouldn't fit the Mopar ATF gallon jug, so I had to refill some of the quart jugs. I had 3 and the pump didn't completely drain them. And I over filled one once and got most of it in. So I think it took 3 1/2.

I still don't know how to figure out which transfer case I have. I see a number of different numbers for them. And Haynes and Chilton's both say the most that should go into any of them is 4 pints. Which is two quarts. I have seen posts about people getting far more than that in there. Which is what I did. Fluid like water likes to seek it's own level, which is level level, and so when it didn't flow out until it did, it had room for more fluid.

I will say that transfer case is large. It is not a small item, so it should take more than 4 pints, in my opinion, but they all say add til it runs out. That's what I did.

This is the 08 Liberty Limited, trail rated and tow package.

I did get the nuts off the rear transmission mount where it bolts into the cross member. Transmission cross member, I guess it's called. I want to replace it. The upward bolts that hold it on go into a bracket with nuts on top, on the bracket, and four bolts into the frame, two on each side. Those shouldn't have any rust on them as they are inside the member and frame. And should come out regular like, with a breaker bar.

I'm going to paint the new cross member with POR15 before installation.

water pump is in.
was going to install the block heater, but a couple taps of the hammer on the freeze plug told me, better to wait until the spring or something, when I'm not going to need the jeep as much.

I drove the KJ to my new side gig. I’m test driving cars on the weekends. Yesterday was a Compass, today was a JL with the 2.0L turbo. That’s my first time ever even being in a wrangler of any time. I liked it. It reminded me of my old lifted XJ...

Had to replace a right side rear turn signal bulb today. ;(
In 2007 bought a set of used 2006 rear tail light housings for the 04 ( liked the looks of them better )
Ran them on the 04 until 2016 when I removed them and installed on the 03
This is the first bulb I've had to replace in all those years ! LOL
Now I suppose they'll all burn out in next two weeks ;)

In what way ? I rode, well even drove, a neighbors the other day and saw nothing at all similar to any of the XJs I had
Didn't like it at all, seems really cheaply made to me
The way it drove is what reminded me. It definitely seems to be made too cheaply to be worth the price tag. My ‘89 and ‘90 XJ’s definitely had nicer interiors.

Changed the rear wiper motor from a scrapped Liberty and got front tow hooks.

The guy only gave me the two hooks with the 4 nuts and 2 bolts and the 2 M bolts and speed U nut clips are missing. Now I’m trying to figure out how to mount it to the bumper without the complete hardware kit.

Hey Jay, I want tow hooks also. I don't know if the 08 KK originally had tow hooks or not. Or to go with aftermarket.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I got under with 2 jack stands and some wood blocks trying to figure out how to jack and support the transfer case and drive line to remove the rear transmission cross member. I was concerned about screwing up the alignment on the drive line, but the only alignment on it is the 4 studs going down into the cross member and they are just holes not adjustment holes. So it should just be plug and play, essentially. I think if I put a long wood block under the studs and just jack 1/4" I could then tuck more wood and jack stands under the t case in two spots. And get the cross member out.

Any ideas on that would be appreciated.

Thanks

what's the latest on tires?
Still a toss up between:
FIRESTONE DESTINATION A/T2
COOPER DISCOVERER AT3 4S
HANKOOK DYNAPRO AT2

?

Not an off roader, more a towing/hauling/mule, but don't want to be "that jeep that got stuck" in something. :D
Not doing Goodyear Wranglers again.

I put the cooper's on my tacoma recently and they have great looks and traction but are loud, almost mud tire loud on the streets. I'm leaning toward Falken next purchase.

No other choices ?
I'd say none of the above

I went with 245/70/16 Atturo Trail Blade A/Ts because I live in an area with lots of dirt roads. Not too bad on pavement, decent in the snow for sure. Jeep walked thru the 6" of snow we got just before the new year. Some tread noise, but totally liveable.
