The kids passed me going the opposite direction in Bert this morning as I was out getting coffee beans and pug treats.
Is surreal to see the little monster still gettin’ it done.
Freely admit I miss the Liberty, but last season’s endurance trip proved it was time to upgrade. Bert now has 240k miles and that count is too risky when your life depends on the vehicle.
I always see our old Grand Cherokee around town - breaks my heart to always see it dirty. Kind of regret selling it, but I wanted a new vehicle so it had to go.

got back on the khaki jeep today.
pulled the cats out of it.
oh yea, the passenger one is bad. it shouldn't rattle and bits of converter shouldn't fall out of it.

gonna go steal the newish ones out of the 65th anniversary. definitely decided to make it a parts jeep.

I bet that's why sometimes the scan tool would show the downstream working right, then others show it as if the cat was totally dead. I bet parts are moving around and sometimes allow gases to pass completely by the matrix.

Today, I flushed the radiator and block. I found out last night while replacing the valve cover gaskets that the radiotor petcock was completely clogged.

I'm not sure what fluid was in there before but I know to replace it with HOAT. Is there any way to diy flush the heater core?

Pop the lines off the inlet and outlet and run water through reversed from normal flow.

cats from the 65th are now in the khaki jeep. scan tool says all is working well. only the EVAP monitor hasn't set.
trans continues to try and pop a P0740 for the trans and P0700 for the ECU, but I can clear the former which deletes the latter without screwing with the readiness monitors. if need be at some point i'll yank that from the 65th.
plan is tomorrow to get it through inspection successfully.
then on to the rest of the punch list...
rear glass replacement (65th)
passenger tail light housing (65th)
blower motor resistor replacement (65th or cloud car)
possibly a blower motor since it sounds weird at full speed (65th)
figger out if the boomerang from the 65th is in better shape; current one lets the rear axle move noticeably, and you can see the bushings are gone.

after that, figuring out if I can sell some parts or not.
engine works fine now that the rocker arm is reinstalled.
oil pan is weeping.
pretty sure every seal on the thing needs redoing, as it's a sludge disaster underneath.
before I disable it too much I need to reinstall the khaki's cats on it and move it to my house.

If anyone needs any parts from a silver over grey let me know. it's got the 65th anniversary seats that need some cleaning. also the embroidered floor mats.

also if anyone has a line on the terraflex 2LO kit for the NP242, hook a brother up? seems like it's no longer made.

Still waiting for the proper hose clamps for the Mishimoto intercooler hoses which will be going on to replace the oil soaked OEM ones.
Unfortunately I ALSO need to wait for the Nissen AC condenser that I ordered from Amazon...it is SUPPOSED to be an oem replacement which has the dual condenser functions for both the AC and the AT.

So in the meantime, I added the Hayden HD fan clutch and 3.7 V6 11 blade cooling fan to the front!!!

ALSO, since one of the lower half airbox mounting grommets was missing when I pulled my air box, and since they are no longer available from Mopar or even aftermarket, I d****d around with an old StaLube 1 gallon flexible spout that I had lying around in my "caps and plugs" box (y'all have one of those dont ya???;)).

Using only a hack saw and a dremel with rounded diamond bit, I turned this --

Which worked perfectly to do this--

The yellow "MacGyver" grommet snapped into place in the hole in the chassis, and a little silicone grease in ALL 3 grommets made for a successful and solid test fit for the airbox.


I guess I shoulda just said- "Today I also wasted 15 minutes"

while I successfully did it, I do NOT recommend attempting to swap the hatch glass by yourself. get a friend. two would be even better.
I've it a couple times (resoldering defrost tabs) using a cute little ratchet with the torx drive. Not too tuff if you're the right height and can use your head to hold the window when there's only one or 2 screws.

Got an alignment after replacing a pile of suspension & steering components. Still pulls slightly to the left. Firestone said there's an adjustment that has to be performed at a dealer. Whatever could it be?

It's better now than it was before, and they gave a massive discount for as much time as it took; I'm happy enough. :)

I have a Complete KJ airbox with intact and can pull grommets out of Bert if your MacGyverism fails. Bert runs an Apollo due to the snorkle.

That's the wackiest thing I've heard all day! If it pulls one way on acceleration and the other when braking it's the rear lower control arms. There's no special jeep liberty magic when alignment is needed.

Yup... it was the rear lower control arms that did that on my 2005...gotta say it was fairly unnerving at highway speeds before I figured it out.

Mine did it after I had the dealer replace them on recall. I picked up after hours and was up til 2am releasing and retorqing everything they touched. An old crusty bolt fooled them into thinking it was tight. I ended up getting an alignment free of charge after I let them know their failure.

I had the LCA done under recall a while back. Before then, it was a bucking bull with every change in throttle!

Replacing *all* the front stuff triggered this alignment. I figured it would be near perfect after all those new parts and 7 hours at the neighborhood Firestone. Not so much. I'll probably run it in for a while and take it back under the 12-month warranty. ::shrug::
