Yup. Ours is going in the basement; we don't have a garage :(

Funny, I don't have a basement.:laughing1:

I have a garage technically but I don't get to use it. The wife and older daughter use it. My KJ is usually in the muddy yard but she likes it out there in the mud.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Yes they are. Only ones I use too.

Nice writeup. I like the crowbar tip.
I'd highly advise against using a crowbar like that, good way to bend wheel studs and mess up the threads.Better way is to use that crowbar wedged between the seat and brake pedal(or another person) to loosen that axle nut.

Of course I use a impact,no holding required.

Good point. I think the last time I did one I jammed a screwdriver into a rotor fin and wedged it against the caliper or caliper bracket. Seemed to work fine.

On my Safari, I used a hitch pin. I did use an impact to get off the nut, though.

I've been debating whether I should pull my axle shafts or not. I don't think the heat from welding my bracket on should hurt them, but I decided it's better to pull them to be safe. So me and the kids went and did that this morning.

My daughter even decided to join in. I'll make a mechanic out of her yet.

They really didn't like the smell of the oil though haha. I guess I should've warned them, but it's more fun to see their reaction.

Finally did my first mechanic work by myself. It's feeling pretty nice.
Changed my front sway bar bushing, tha fixed all the noise and rough suspension problem I was having. I now have my jeep back like when I got it 2 years ago damn I'm in love again!
Also did the T-case and diff oil. It was about time it was done. For now the jeep run like a charm, no apparent leak or whatsoever. Thx for all the advice you guys gave me! now let's hope I wont find a leak tomorrow XD.

Haha! Yeah...nothing quite like the stench of gear oil! Nice that they got a taste of turning wrenches though!

After listening to the passenger side wheel bearing groan at me for the past few thousand miles I figured it was time to change it.

Since Timken is headquartered here in the county i live in I had to buy a Timken hub. Besides, they're the best made:

Before removing the brake caliper and hanging it from the upper A-arm, time to take off the CV axle nut. For those wondering how to take it off with the wheel removed here's how to place a crowbar or long screwdriver on the lugs:

Used a high quality external Torx socket (E-14) from Wright Tools to remove the bolts, then a couple of whacks with the BFH and a slide hammer and the old one was off:

Installed the new one, tightened the three bolts to 100 ft/lbs and replaced everything.

No more groaning at 35mph+ and just an hour of my time. Now time to paint the suspension :waytogo:

Bob

Replaced both back in March I believe when I thought the thumping noise I had was due to bad bearings. Both needed replaced anyways since the Moog I had installed failed already and the driver side was dry. Picked up a set of Generic Brand for 90 bucks. So far they've worked great for being an inexpensive set of hubs.

Nada to my Jeep. The hub gets to wait until tomorrow.

Had to free up the right rear drum on my '93 Tercel. Then change the oil on my friend's '04 Chrysler Sebring GTC convertible. And replace the left door check strap - it was cracked in 2 places. Then investigate a squeaking noise in the right front tire area. Once I jacked it up, it stopped squeaking and wouldn't do it again back on the ground. The lug nuts didn't seem centered properly on the rim when I removed the tire, but I can't imagine that would make a squeaking noise. Upper balljoint is OEM and almost dry, lower is OEM and not quite as dry and tie rod end, also OEM, is not quite as dry. All non-greasable, of course. It started making the squeak when she had all 4 tires replaced.

Oh, and the upper control arms on that thing are teeny-tiny stamped metal. Scary...

Aaaah Lake Erie ... fond memories

I rented a 2012 F-150 last month Leeann, and I was amazed at how thin the UCA's were!

Oh ... and drove Bulkhead to the in-laws :D 250 miles, managed just over 300 smiles to the gallon :waytogo:

Drug one of my trailers up to he old place for another load of _______________. Getting ready to hit 202000 tomorrow on the next trip North for another load of furniture, then starting on the garage. :icon_rolleyes:

Seeing those wheel bearings reminds me I have one for the right side laying in the back along with a right side CV. Been back there about 3500 miles wonder how long they will last:evillol:

Got the chest freezer out and into the basement. You can hardly hear the thing run and it will only use about $30 in electricity for the year.

Then put the Jeep back together for family driving - we've got a party to go to shortly.

Changed the oil and rotated the tires in the old garage today, going to miss having enough room to move around. These city 2 cars are too dang small! Hopefully this will be short lived and will find the perfect house with a 9 car garage out back soon.
