Got away for the weekend

Hitched up to the newly redone '56 Shasta and hauled it over the divide to Encampment, WY for the Cowboy Gathering. No chores or work, just relaxing.

Ordered up some vent shades and some other items for the 05 Limited that's in "the family" now :gr_grin:
Step Dad starts pointing out things on mine, saying " think I could have that on mine" :shrug: "Don't know can ya??"
Just went ahead and ordered everything and have it shipped directly to him, be like Christmas in July when it all shows up.
Next to get the 02 Renegade down to my new place and get it running this next weekend possibly.

Bought it for $300 17 years ago, it was a mess. Did a rebuild and got her roadworthy. This round of redo cleaned her up even more with a paint job close to original. We love this thing, altho I discovered instead of the Dodge diesel we used the Liberty and at 10,000 ft. altitude had my foot mashed and was going 40. First time I noticed the 3.7 struggling. The camper isn't that heavy but the altitude and s-curves took its toll. Might reduce tire size closer to original to help the gearing which should help.

Since the Liberty performs much better in a tail wind, you might want to look into installing one of these set to blow onto the back window! :happy175:

VERY cool little trailer!

I noticed the same "struggling" this weekend pulling my small off-road trailer at that altitude as well. I simply had to take my time and let traffic pass my by. Kinda frustrating, but I have to learn to not be in a hurry. Good thing the speed limit was only 45 in the first place! lol! 2nd gear and 40mph seemed to be pretty comfortable for the Libby all the way up the hill.

...oh, and downhill was no problem!

BTW, some of the Shasta camper models had small wings on the upper sides at the back end...wonder if that would help?

Yeah, hate to get passed being "that guy" holding up traffic (I''ll pull over on a flat and let them by). My friend has a CRD...might try with that to see how the diesel performs at altitude as compared to normally aspirated.

Haha! I had an '89 Metro Lsi...it would squeal the front tires and do about 90 max - downhill with a tail-wind! I remember that turning on the A/C was like tossing out a parachute! Loved that little thing for commuting...and sure miss the economy! It was nice only filling up the 13 gallon tank once every three or four weeks! :) Oh...and it hauled enough wood to build a 15' section of cedar fencing more than once! :gr_grin:

Mine was a 77 Pinto. Many long trips in that thing laoded to the gills. Speedo only went to 85 but it would do it. 2.3L 4 speed manual, manual brakes, no power assist steering and the possibility of bursting into flames at any moment... Kinda like the KJ in that regard :ROFLJest:

Rotated my tires and added a new sticker. Forgot my windows in the back are tinted so I couldn't put it on my window. I'll probably take it off anyway but it was funny for the time-being

stripped the stickers off and took it through a car wash. poor thing was ridiculously dirty and I'm stuck working on other vehicles right now.

Found the speedo is off by 4mph and shouldn't, going to get it calibrated next week. Explains why I get passed like I'm standing still usually when I am normally about matched to the flow of traffic at what speeds I drive.

This past weekend, went to Home Dopey and loaded 20 80lb bags of mortar and 20 sheets of metal lath onto the trailer...
