Ask if the Cam Phasers have ever been done on it, if not DO NOT BUY IT!

I know all about the cam phaser issue in the 3v ha ha. As of now it's not ticking, he's only had it for a little over a year so there is no way to know if it's been done. But for $6 grand cash for an extremely clean rig I'm not going to worry too much about it.

Ticking is the second phase, sounding like a Diesel is the first phase.

I attempted to have the UBJ and Airbag recall done. The dealer said I needed the hitch recall done as well, even though it never had a hitch. 8 hours later...2 hours after they said it would be finished, I call them to find out if it was done, just to be told that the haven't even touched it...ugh!

Its a repair shop epidemic, usually comes from poor shop management either the Main Manager or the Service Manager who does not know how to utilize time effectively or priority of customers. (IE understanding what a drop off appointment is and that it still takes priority over a walk in waiter)

After a rough day with work and personal issues. I dropped a hang glider(that I didn't even get to fly) off the roof when trying to load it on the kj...snapped off my passenger side mirror.

Do all libbys qualify for UBJ recall? I called my dealer when i was getting a hitch recall and he said UBJ recall was over last year. Is it still going on and do they replace it anyway or check the condition of UBJ and if it's fine they leave it alone?

Found these guys at the JY and snatched up a set of four for $5. Fit way better than the generic ones from VatoZone. And they have a nifty little grill and Jeep logo.

Ticking/knocking was a vague statement. Sounding like a powerstroke is an obvious sign and if that was the case I wouldn't have let my dad buy the car in the first place ha ha. To simply say "if it hasn't had cam phaser done don't buy it" is a bit of a stretch. Cam phasers aren't that difficult of a repair and at 130k miles if they haven't started ticking yet then it probably doesn't have the cam phaser defect. If it were ticking it's more likely the tensioners are bad causing low pressure, or the chains or guides themselves. Not to say the phasers won't go bad but it's not a catastrophic failure and for 6grand cash for a vehicle that nice I wouldn't be upset if I had to do some repairs between now and 200k. Mechanical ability is what sets us apart from the guys who drop their vehicles and a blank check at the stealerships.

Either way the expy runs and drives just as strong as any of the other 5.4s I've had. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

Used the KJ like a tractor to pull overgrown bushes out of a couple of landscape beds. Neighbors thought I was nuts till they saw how quickly they came out. My daughter said it was like the Jeep was popping great big zits :gr_grin:

A Cam Phaser Job is not a two hour and its done ordeal, despite what Youtube Videos may say. I know enough about the Tritons I would never own one between the Cam Phasers and the Spark Plugs. I watched enough Cam Phaser Jobs and see how much they cost to warrant never buying.

The spark plugs are a pain but with the right tools once it's done and you upgrade the plugs it's done. Especially if you're lucky and you don't break one. To each their own, the triton may be a dud to you but to someone with the ability to address the issues the 3v has, it's an excellent option to get at a very good price. The triton motor is a strong runner and always has been despite it's few issues but you'll find issues with every motor out there.
