Took the fender flares off, to restore them to factory color and make them all the same non sun faded color.

Rear door fender flares and bumpers will be next!

Please post your process on this, I'm wanting to restore or possibly paint my fenders as well. The old sun faded plastic looks ugly to me.

NO the SKIM is not somehow bypassed!
The video clearly shows that the key was inserted into its normal slot to enable SKIM.;)

This is not new....there have been several posts...some by myself...to remove the Ignition Switch and if there is rubbish falling down then the Actuator Pin Assembly needs replacing.

To drive the Jeep until a new Pin Assembly is obtained you put the ignition key in its normal position to enable SKIM and rotate it to unlock the steering.

Then use a small screwdriver to rotate the ignition switch and you can drive off.:)

This video is an ugly fix and removing the mechanism that locks the steering makes the Jeep easier to steal....will not start without the key in place but Jeep could be towed away!:(

Billwill,

You are correct regarding the video, I clearly state that I did not bypass the SKIM and do need the key to turn it on and drive it. However since then I have discovered that I do not need the key to start or drive the Jeep. It has been inside the house for the last few days and I have been driving it around without the key with no problems.

I will take pictures the next time I am in the steering column but it looked like the SKIM module was not even plugged in.

I will try to get a couple more pictures the next time I am in the steering column.

You are correct, the Jeep is easier to steal now, but who would want to steal this monstrosity in the first place?

I own a stick shift with a mechanical 4WD selector; the XBOX generation will have no damn clue how to work it as there's no buttons. :D
(I didn't call them Nintendo, because technically i'm on the tail end of that generation.)

Heck give it a decade and there's going to be a whole class of car thief that won't know how to steal anything that's not keyless push button start!

duderz7,

I'm retired, so definitely not a big house at all, haha. The keys to the Liberty have been in the house on the key rack. I have been starting and driving the Liberty every day around the yard with no problems. Kids and wife came a long a few times for the drive too.

I have noticed my windshield washer fluid is frozen as well. As far as I can tell, it has not broken the plastic box. I have never used that stuff in my life (71 years). I did notice at Walmart, ww fluid WINTER FORMULA.
So I guess the deal is, that, in this climate, also Minnesota, you gotta change the windshield washer fluid for winter.
dc

Usually in Sep/Oct I run out the bug stuff and put the deicer in.

Tried to figure out if I could find the problem with the heater. Removed the easy panels told it to work better and put panels back on. Didn’t fix the problem

Gets hot when at idle and fan is on low but cools down when fan is turned up. I’ve read on here a lot of different things to try so just starting with the easy ones and working my way to the hot/cool blend door and heater core. Will be flushing the heater core and replacing the thermostat next. If that doesn’t work then on to the real work. If I’m gonna tear the dash out then I’m going to replace what I can while I’m in there. All this after it warms up and I don’t need the heater of course. Haha

That is interesting that you do not need the chipped key in place to start the Jeep!
These Jeeps are real Brain-Teazers but how can you call it a monstrosity! Good thing my 19 year old Girl did not see your comment!;)

Billwill,

I was very surprised too, previous owner must have reflashed the ECU and erased SKIM. I am also glad its a 4 plug ECU so I will definitely be keeping it for future Liberty projects. Think earlier Liberties had the 3 plug ECUs.

They are brain-teazers for sure but they are also so much easier to work on than 00-06 GM trucks which I came to know very well. Mine is a monstrosity, your girl is probably just as cute and bubbly as the day she rolled off the assembly line, lol!

Hi everyone new here
I've been using this forum a lot. I recently just bought my 5th Jeep. The last few days I have been cleaning it up and replacing the entire suspension . Fixing many broken and missing items. Starting to LQQK nice again.

Got my OME kit in today, Next is just to order new mounts for the front and isolators for the front and rear. I'm not a fan of reusing old items on new parts. Rather go all new.

Next is a set of JBA upper front arms, as I hear they are a must have for the OME kit.

Started repainting my Liberty pickup!

Rustoleum: good from far but far from good!

Initially it was supposed to be John Deere green but this neon green caught my attention and I just had to.

Most of the front end is painted and drying, should be ready to bolt back on tomorrow!
