Just above the oil filter, they wear out or get gummed up and start behaving exactly as you described. I don't remember it being expensive, but get OEM if you can. If you cheap out you'll be doing it again sooner.

Not Had a chance to look at it yet but I'm suspecting it's just a sticky piston. I rebuilt a rear caliper on my WJ (when the smoke was the leaking fluid burning off hot brake parts) & the most difficult part was sourcing a kit that included a piston but when I had a problem with the KJ's voracious appetite for right rear pads, I replaced the caliper because it was silly cheap - but what's a 1/2-caliper (takes me back to when you had to split calipers to reseal them).
Just the front bit of the caliper without the pad slides.
Frentech Braking do replacement piston and seals, I got them from there Ebay shop.

Your KJ is still in very good condition! Wonder what OBD2 codes are pending? What muffler are you installing?

Well I never would have guessed this one. Started smelling gas every single time I drive the jeep. Thought maybe something had happened at the fuel tank and the filler neck since it started right after I got a full tank put in. Nope. It's apparently the jumper line from the fuel hard line to the rails. It's leaking at the fitting on the hard line. Just weeps enough that when it's running for a bit it'll drip. Really kind of scary because the exhaust manifold is not too far from there!

Installed a ValvoMax oil drain plug on the mighty Cummins over the weekend.

Agonized ( LOL who me??) between the Fumoto, EZ Drain and Valvomax models and ended up deciding on the ValvoMax.

I like it SOOOOOO much, that Im gonna get one for the Jeep as soon as one of youz guys or gals tells me the thread size and pitch of the OEM KJ CRD drain plug??

finally getting around to the great brake job of 2024.
found my first show stopper.
the 4 bolts that hold the flange/seal(?) to the axle housing, they're not bolts any more. they're just rusted fused globs of mettal. so, they gotta be cut off and replaced. anyone know what that part is called or the part # to look up?

so apparently 6036595AA is the correct part number for the stud, but it's discontinued.
it's also only for the 06-07 model years.
6036556AA is the part number for 02-05 for some reason? also it's fitment is for Dakota and RAM for 02-07. which would make sense since it's the same axle IIRC. the question is, why the part # change for 06-07? anyone know if the "alternate" part # would work?
I don't want to just go get some grade 8 bolts, but if I have to I have to I guess.

I'd go grade 10 as they are holding the brakes on. No idea what changed maybe something to do with the ABS system on the later Jeeps??

Mean okay I guess the 06 was the first year that the Jeeps got four channel abs. Did the 07 Dakota's and Rams not have four channel? Seems a little bizarre that the bolts would have to be changed, but what the hell do I know.

New master cylinder installed. Fyi, centric doesn't know how to drill a ******* hole apparently and thread it correctly. I wasted over 2 hours getting the rear brake line fitting installed.

All shiny new front brakes installed. Rotors, calipers, brackets, pads. Yes I know, they're different colors. Apparently, when you order clearance items from rockauto, this is what you get! Oh well.

The rears are a disaster in progress. I already mentioned the bolts in a previous post. I managed to get the one backing plate removed, and used it as a template to drill the hole in the replacements for the ABS sensor. Yes, dorman doesn't make the replacement plates with holes for the rear ABS sensors. Go figure.

I put in new front Jounce Bumpers. It looks like I replaced the originals on my 2003 Libby. One was gone and the other one fell out when I touched it. The rear ones should be replaced soon. Also, I put in new thrid brake light. The old one was barely visible when lit. Also, I decided to remove the rear seats. They too have been in there since factory in Oct 2002. I put in a plywood shelf that can be slept on and/or used for other activities.

When I bought this in Nov 2020 it was right before the price of used cars skyrocketed. The used car salesman told me a few months later he could have got $8000 for it if he did not sell it to me so soon. It had 94000 miles when I got it and it now has 113000 miles. I put in new struts, rear springs, new speakers all around, new heater control panel, new fan air resistor, new fluids all around, and new PCV tubes/hoses/PVC as soon as I got it. The original water pump failed the following summer. I did replace the sparks plugs as well. I change the oil every 3000 miles.

I never owned a Jeep until this one and I like it which is why I am doing all these things. The next step is to take it for a long road trip to some parks for soem car camping/exploring.
