    AC Clutch destroyed itself...

Smell was inside, didn't smell anything in the engine compartment. I was getting more of a 3G sound (groaning/grinding/grating). A tick, depending on what it is you're hearing, could be lifter noise, fuel injector, exhaust leak, belt/pulley related...

    AC Clutch destroyed itself...

When mine went, I was smelling something "burning" was like a cross between an electrical and brakes cooking smell. This was with AC turned off. Then it started making noise. Removing the belt and giving the twirl test was the dead giveaway, the clutch was stiff and partially locking up....not...

Well I had a nice jeep for a week...

The uniframe is inboard about 10" from the rockers. The outer rockers lend support to the floor that goes beyond the "frame" rail, which is also where the outer seats are connected and body weight is pushing down, as well as gives support when stepping on the door sill area. I'll bet if you rode...

    AC Clutch destroyed itself...

I watched and watched and watched, waiting for it to fail at least once, but it didn't happen. :happy175: Wish I had known this trick back in my VW days.

Don't forget our Liberty is a unibody, the rocker panels add to the body/frames rigidity. If you're going to cut the outer rocker completely away, then you might as well weld the skids to the body.

Well I had a nice jeep for a week...

That would depend on how long you plan on keeping your Jeep. The skids can hide the rust as a temporary "fix". That will last until the rust finally creeps up and around to the top of the door sill.

Well I had a nice jeep for a week...

Eh, I've fixed worse. You're lucky the damage stayed on the rocker. However you fix it, make sure it's sealed up well from the weather. Letting the elements pack in there will rust the inner rocker area in no time. If you don't go the rock slider route, then a replacement rocker panel is cheap...

Traction Control coming on when I hit 30-35 MPH.

Drive in the rain and give it a lead foot at the stop sign. If you have t.c, you'll find out then.

Traction Control coming on when I hit 30-35 MPH.

Mine has ABS, but not traction control. My "traction control" is the clutch pedal. ;)

tips on removing sheared bolt ?

Lol, as long as stuff gets returned. I loaned my engine stand to my neighbor for his cousin to use, that was over 10 years ago. At least I'm not tripping over it here. :happy175:

Oil filler cap difficult to unscrew

Note to self, when you ask for rhino liner, be sure to read the fine print. KY might help, until you drive through some heavy rain, it's water soluble.

    Debating An Offroading Lighting Idea

Funny you should mention aircraft landing lights. I used to use those as the bright beams in my 5-3/4" quad headlight Corvettes. Man do they light up the sky...eh I mean road. Just don't get caught with them, they're illegal. I still have my pair on the shelf.

Oil filler cap difficult to unscrew

Vaseline is a petroleum product, as is motor oil and conventional grease. If the motor oil swelling the rubber is the suspect, then Vaseline isn't going to be any better. That's why I suggested trying Kentucky (KY) Jelly. It's water soluble, and not petroleum based. I have a tube in the garage...

Oil filler cap difficult to unscrew

Do schools still offer weight training? Maybe they should add Jeep oil cap turning to the program. If that doesn't turn you into a real man, nothing will.

Oil filler cap difficult to unscrew

My cap can get a bit stiff too, but I've always been able to remove it. Instead of white grease, maybe try some Kentucky Jelly, it's a non-petroleum lube. The stiff cap is so common, Lisle makes a wrench for it, part #34000. Until the wrench arrives, eat your Wheaties! ;)

Got a new battery...what does JKJ think?

Yep, you can always count on mother nature to give your battery a cold weather analysis. "Rule of thumb" (read not law) is, if battery survives the first good freeze of the season, you're good for the winter. I've never had that mother nature test fail.

Got a new battery...what does JKJ think?

The Delco Remy Freedom battery (green eye) was from the 70's and 80's. I've had them, but the all seeing eye didn't seem to forewarn me better than the first cold weather snap did! lol

Places to buy plug wires and OEM headers?

But in your google searches, were you finding actual instances of cracked Liberty cast iron manifolds, or the more likely cracked (at a weld) non-Liberty steel manifold, a blown out manifold to head gasket, snapped bolts or studs, or a leaky donut gasket?

I like those. They would match mine better though. :icon_mrgreen:
