    No, taking off more metal will NOT reduce the ability to dissipate heat(exactly the opposite) think which stays hot longer a red hot chunk of 1/2 inch steel or a thin chuink of the same metal. That being said turning rotors is not a great idea -just get new ones.

    Have you tried tightening the bolts, may be a little loose, whats to lose at this point? And I always put a drain in the first time I dump the fluid.

    If it was not a 50/50 mix of coolant/water it will run too hot. Maybe they put in 100% coolant thinking the jugs were 50/50 mix.

    That has always been a problem with that trans. Off road I have had to go to lo range to back up a hill. But you cannot do that on pavement. Many people report that as an issue with the gearing.
