Wow..You are not having much luck on the valve train lately Jayme.
I hate to ask..how much $ to rebuild both used heads...?
I wonder if there are new performance heads for the 3.7 that could be bolted on as well? Did you investigate this as a possibility or?
What caused your overheating condition? waterpump?

It was under $600 to have both heads redone.
Total job was done under $1000 - includes everything... head rebuilds, coils, injectors, gaskets, fluids, etc. I seriously considered selling it and getting something else this time, but we opted for the repair yet again... still less than financing a new or used vehicle.

The overheating was from the 'mud incident' many, many moons ago. It's what started me on this path I'm on.

We never researched outside the realm of having the heads rebuilt. The performance shop who did the work does a ton of work for the guys in the Chicago area race circuits - he comes well recommended. And he stands behind his work, which is a whole lot more than the shop that 'rebuilt' them the last time.

Yep...horrible oil starvation on the 99-02 2.7 Intrepids. Plus, that's a big car for that little motor! Lots of design issues. ..internal water pump driven by the way-too-long timing chain, poor oil galleys in the heads...plastic coolant housing that popped on a regular basis causing lots of overheating...ugh... The 3.5 was pretty stout though...

Oil drain ports to the pan were 90 degrees sharp rather than gradual so that sludge could flow with the oil to the drain pain, instead having that sharp caused a sludge build up in the engine itself direct. That would have lead to the oil starvation issues. The worst part of it was, didn't matter if you we're a clockwork customer at a Chrysler Dealership doing 1500 mile oil changes on your Intrepid and it detonated still under your Power Train Warranty. It was still your fault for not doing your oil changes every 1499 miles therefore not covered. A lot of lawsuits went out against Chrysler for that. Mercedes didn't dare, "You blew your 2.7 in your C Class Mercedes with 150K miles!? Here you go on new engine free of charge!"

Today I installed the renegade roof rack on my '03. The rack was a generous gift from CobraNutt. The rack gives it a look I like more than just the factory rails. Still have some more stuff I want to do to customize it and looking forward to it!

Looks great, Kevin! I'm glad someone is finally able to put it to use! I didn't think it would fit right without the holes in the rails...is it sitting up a bit? I hope you guys enjoy it!

I got the first radiator form O'Reilly's with lifetime warranty so I have just been switching them.

The guy from NAPA told me that the one they had was OEM so that is the one I got now.

:icon_lol:
OK, so thats why 03CDKJ had 9 or 10 in two years from NAPA
Unless they have changed they are no different than any of the other off brands
He finally gave up and went to a MOPAR one and no more issues

In Summer I notice the Jeep runs quite hot under the hood.
215F+ Coolant temp normal in traffic.
That does not help with cheap rads either. Wonder if one of those Suncoast scoop hoods would help vent the engine bay...OR... Just take the hood off would be best !!!!
Keeping the Hoat fresh is also is a good plan!

I go hood-less with my Camaro and the engine never gets above 190. Not very practical for a daily driver that may see a spritz of rain or flake of snow though! ;)
