Eighty foot well, water starts 28 ft down. That's actually 12' more water than the last time we checked, around 8 yrs ago.

That's just a hole in the ground! :p

Our well growing up in CO was 238 ft. It dried up in the late 80's.

Sent from my mystical handheld gizmo.

That's what I need! We have some flaky power up here and it's nice to be able to flush when you need to. Replaced mine about 5 years ago (in January!!!) but haven't pulled the trigger on a generator yet... yet.

He wanted to do it the last time the pump died (16 yrs ago), but it was January and he was just starting to recover from a bad bout of pneumonia. He had to get a pump and get it in before the next snow came through.

This time, we were lucky enough to find one in stock the same day (230v is much more commonly stocked), 2 miles away, less than half price (stil $$$).

As for the generator, we have an ancient RV with a 4kW Onan CCK. Awesome genset.

16 years is pretty good. My last one was about 10 years and when it went during that very cold January, I called a plumber. My one friend and I would tackle it in the warmer weather but that was a rough winter. Hoping this one lasts a long time but wouldn't mind the generator capability. My neighbor has an old school hand pump on his well head if things get really bad. And then there's always the creek behind my house.

I see a generator in my near future regardless.

My hubby's an HVAC master. We don't farm out anything...too cheap!

:D

Yeah, he bought a good pump then because it was the only one in stock that day. Heh.

The generator has come in handy several times. It just chugs along...with the boiler, the fridge, the stereo with the Sirius plugged in, several drop lights. Had plenty of capacity left, so why not add in the water pump? It also charges up the UPSs so we keep the internet humming along, too ;)

I'd say that sounds smart not cheap. If you can do it yourself you can do it your way and save money. Drove me nuts last spring when I had to hire someone to put a roof on when I've done plenty myself but just had no time. Fortunately the outfit we hired did a great job, quickly and for a good price.

True. We figured we saved about $3k on the job. Already have the t-handle, already had the brass fittings to connect the pump to the plastic pipe, the wire was plenty good so we tinned the ends then soldered them together, put heat shrink over the joins then splicing tape and electrical tape over that. Teflon tape on all the threads, too. All of which we had here.

Switching from 230v to 115v, we removed the double breaker from the panel and put in the 2 single 20 amp breakers that were sitting on top of the panel. The second one is just waiting for whatever we might need next ;)

The only cost was the wholesale cost of the pump (less than half price) and our time.

I guess the T-handle is that cool tool for holding the plastic pipe after dropping the pipe with the pump attached into the well and making the connection to the line going to the house but down in the well casing. I watched the guys do that and it was pretty cool. Of course I was immediately thinking of how I could make one. He made the connection in one try. Pretty awesome.

Drove it to Lowe's to get parts to fix the second plumbing disaster of the weekend. The third plumbing disaster happened while we were out.

Second= Expansion tank failed
Third= hot water feed to main bathroom's sink had a pinhole explode in the wall just above the floor. Apparently has been dripping a while. Hubby just brazed it up,

Working on installing the new expansion tank now. Almost all the fittings need to be replaced.

Sounds like you've got water like me. Just eating through the copper. I'm in the process of replacing it piece by piece with CPVC. Always a pinhole on an elbow where it was stretched. Usually at some ridiculous time of day or when we're not home too. Not much copper left now. People look at me funny when I'm driving home from Lowes with a couple 10 footers hanging out the KJ.

I hope three is the limit too!

This one appeared to be a flaw in the pipe. The rest of the pipe was completely solid (crush test) and we couldn't make the pinhole larger with a punch.

Phew.

We did have one section of copper that was eaten from the inside out; that was for the icemaker in the fridge they POs had. We don't have an icemaker, so we just removed the pipe and capped it off. All the rest of the pipe is solid.

Though he does plan to redo the entire system in CPVC because it looks like 3 very drunk plumber's assistants dreamed up the system and then implemented it while they were high :(

Gave it another bath today because last nights bathing wasn't as good as I thought it was. Drove it, enjoyed it. Think I found the newest noise issue so I'll address it tomorrow most likely. Believe for the most part cured the squeaking coming from the passenger seat that has been driving me up the wall past two months, might just need to tighten down two more bolts/nuts and job done.

Drove it to the gun range and put 15/16 of a pound of lead through a target. Might need to ice my shoulder down tonight. Good thing I'm not pitching tomorrow.
