Went to the gas station to fuel up and also to top off the air pressure in my tires. While I was bending down filling the front driver's side tire I heard this horrible clanging noise. It even drowned out the engine noise. My heart sank - something must be really loose under there to be making that much noise, I thought.

Then the air compressor at the gas station shut off and I realized that the rattling noise was coming from it. The engine wasn't even on. I really need a vacation...

When my Dodge was acting up, one day I was driving and smelled what could only be described as burning oil. I was on a long road with no real place to pull over, so I was willing my truck to make it the two miles to where I knew a parking lot was and checking the temp gauges and the oil pressure gauge. Just as I get to the parking lot, I see a guy ahead of me hauling a roofing tar trailer, and I could see the smoke coming out. Crisis Averted.

This happens to me all the time. For some reason sometimes when I'm in traffic, diesel exhaust smells like ATF to me. I swear it's coming from my vehicle or I'm about to have a stroke. Then I'll see a diesel burner. :emotions34:

Was it one of those coin operated machines? I hate those things...
Ya I had to top up mine recently & found most of my core stems loose a bit!
I like using my portable compressors, & makes for interesting pics LOL !

so, this happened earlier in the week - thankfully I was able to find a used tire that matched the tread wear on my others, so I got it mounted up on Friday and we're back in business.

i also drove down to the local pull-a-part just to look around - didn't find the RBQ head unit I hoped to get to replace my non-functioning CD player (I know I need to just go digital) or the gas tank skid I was crossing my fingers for, but it was still cool to look around. I need to make a shopping list for my next trip.

Oh and I also threw on some more stickers because why not?

I might have 2 in the shed. I know I put one in the wife's car for a while, until she wanted to connect her phone and keep the OEM head unit look, so I had to swap back to the stocker that works with a changer adapter.

Heard some unpleasant noises under the hood today. AC pulley bearing sh*t the bed. slung grease in the predicted pattern. Clutch seems to be working OK and still get nice cold air. Guess I'll disassemble tomorrow and see what is up.

I have one in the 05, never really looked at it until today, actually never had in on, in what almost 3 years of ownership LOL
How are they " special " ??
I have no clue since I rarely have any kind of " noise " on while driving :happy175:
So now just wondering

Pulled this crap off. Can't believe the thing even worked at all. The "resin" on the magnet had actually liquefied and was slung around. The bearing was toast but the clutch didn't look so good either so I ordered the replacement kit.

Yeiks, that does not look too good at all! At how many miles did it break?
Did it sound like missing ball bearings in a coffee can ? LOL...
Hope the kit comes in soon & all is well again!
Suddenly having a spare by-pass belt sounds like a good idea !

It actually didn't sound that terrible. I only noticed a slight but classic dry bearing noise last Wednesday after I got home from work. It was really noticeable when I shut it off in the garage. There was that brief moment when the belt drive spins after the engine is shut off that was pretty obvious. I also noticed the AC wasn't as cold as usual on the highway but picked back up fine when I got to the small roads. It was near mid 90s though. I didn't drive it until I moved it around yesterday to work on our Subaru. Fortunately I have another vehicle to drive so no hurry on the parts. I pressed the bad bearing out so I could just press in a new one (Autozone has them in stock) and run it with just the pulley if need be.

BTW only about 65k on my KJ. My 02 was running the original at 179k. Don't think mileage has a "bearing" on this... couldn't resist.
