What did you do to your jeep today?

With a flashing check engine light, you probably were running on only 4 of 6.

Flashing check engine light = active misfire that can and will damage your catalytic converters. Pull over immediately.

You either have ignition issues (not quite enough spark for that heavy load) or fuel delivery issues (same; not quite enough fuel for that heavy load).

But why wouldn't it shift until I let up on the gas?

Started packing for my cross-country trip. Removed the roof rack to paint it, and discovered a huge (censored) rusted-out hole - so the rack went in recycling... and I'll have to get another one later. Repainted the hooks a fresh coat of yellow. Washed it. Vacuumed and detailed the interior. Tomorrow the skids go back on.

Does anyone ever have a problem under hard acceleration with up-shifting? Accelerator floored from a stop, what RPM does your jeep shift at? Keep it floored and check. Does it go to 5500-5750 before it shifts from 2nd to 3rd? Do you have to let off before it will shift? If not, why does mine?

Mine don't shift till redline when I hold the stupid pedal all the way to the floor.

Nice! Get the mud and gunk out from inside your rims and driveshafts first. Probably making it unbalanced. Shake will probably go away.

Took a wire brush to the undercarriage, suspension and rock rails, then painted with Rustoleum Hammered black. Still have to take care of some rust on the bottom seams of the front doors. Probably use POR-15 unless someone has a better product...?

You're probably right. It was my first attempt at testing the KJ ifs while going fast, it was a nice smooth ride, surprisingly. But i hit one large hole while the tires were turned slightly, and figured I fudged the alignment. A good bath will help.

put a new door latch assembly on rear driver side door during lunch. took maybe 15 minutes.

Finally switched out the MED's for HD's.
Sets the front up nicely now, the front Med's were starting to drop.
22 1/2 all around now.
Got to crank the headlights back done now.

How do you like it compared to the MED ones? I heard you get a little more flex off road with the MED springs upfront but not as much lift compared to HD.... I have the HD on mine but curious what you think:icon_question:

There is only one vehicle I know of that the steering wheel will shake when out of alignment. First generation Chevrolet Express Vans due to a bad suspension design that GM does acknowledge but refuses to fix, no other vehicle will produce a wheel shake when out of alignment. Its either wheel balance or worn out steering part or suspension part. First thing they teach in alignment courses.

Ok so I made some decent progress today. Got home from work and didn't feel like sleeping, so I went to play (work) on the Jeep.

Got all new seals (both axles and pinion seal) in it, installed the new axle vent tube, reinstalled the axle shafts, put some fresh oil in it, scrubbed tons of rust off of it, painted it up real nice, put it back in the Jeep, installed the new brakes, stuck the wheels back on, and threw it on the ground. All that's left now is getting my new brake lines ran, and making my front brackets so I can measure how long my new arms need to be.
