Ok. I’ve said this before, but it looks like I finally got the ABS fixed. Problem now appears to be front brakes hanging up. It alternates wheels at random. Rears don’t hang. Take lines and calipers are virtually brand new from when I was last troubleshooting this issue. Bad master cylinder perhaps? I’m clueless with disc brakes beyond the basics.
Tough part for me is how its alternating wheels, makes the things I can think of less likely to be bad on both sides, but with todays parts quality control ya never know.

It sounds like you have new parts in place, but still may not hurt just to check if they are all working smoothly if nothing else looks suspect of being broken. Most master cylinder problems on vehicles I've dealt with had the issue of hanging up or not applying enough force to all brakes, but still worth looking into as the culprit.

I couldn't find my post about it as I may of mentioned to you johnny, my slide pins on my front calipers seized in place, so I always mention it to others having any kind of issues it could cause.
One of the two pins is undersized and has a rubber sleeve that loves to expand and bind up. I checked mine and the solid pin fit well where the rubber sleeve went, so I went to the junkyard and got extras of the solid pins to put in.

They usually don't bind up, but you can always check if the caliper pistons are starting to act up, and don't operate smoothly.

Some brake lines I've seen have 2 jackets on them, and in the right conditions the inner can go, and use the outer as a reservoir.

Off of work today for some minor dental surgery. Supposed to be 27C today, so hopefully I can get some more work done on Bert, who is now loaded up for the official start to field season. I added additional plastic crates to better organize stuff since this photo was taken. Plan is to install the straps and clips to keep everything in its place.

PA State Inspection today. 191,000 miles. I am getting breakfast at a local diner while the Jeep is checked at the mechanic’s next door.
I wish Nebraska had state inspections. It would get all these death trap junkets and idiots off the roads here.

Funny, haven’t lived in PA since last century, but still maintain my vehicles to the standards.

Broke 177k today. That means over 9k miles since I bought Bert last May. Less than I thought, but a third of those are from excursions.

This year better than half my annual mileage will be excursions.

Wow.

Even though it is an annual expense (only $49+tax at my shop), I completely agree. When we lived in Indiana and there were no state inspections, our car was damaged when the whole exhaust system fell out from under a pickup truck in front of us. The Jeep with its skid plates would have been fine, but we had a Dodge Neon at the time! o_O

Wow.
Those field excursions are a lot harder on the drivetrain and everything else than highway miles! But the fun factor is so much higher that you should more than break even. ;)

Yes, this here. I wish fl would bring inspections back, it would be tough if I wanted another sports car in the future, but it would get so many junkers off of the roads.

That will be the primary use for my skid plates down here too, road debris armor haha.

Wow, indeed. I thought you’d had Bert longer than that. I’m even more impressed by the amount of work you’ve done. The BatCar will pass 200,000 next week sometime.

Jeepy passed inspection just fine this morning.

Working on cleaning up the gas tank hanger I picked up at a junkyard a few months ago. Washed it with soapy water, going to scuff it with fine sandpaper, wash it in Ospho (a rust converter), and paint it with Rustoleum. This gas tank hanger will go inside of the gas tank skid plate I got from ASFIR.

Got the last nearly 2 tons of fire wood.
Now to clean all the wood bits out of the Jeep as it has its biannual control tomorrow. Better wash off the underside to show all the new suspension. Just hitting 300,000 on the counter and hard ones at that. Oil change done, I use 10.40 semi synthetic as I read on a Jeep forum that it is better for the CRD as it was never designed for 0.40 or 5.40 and it was used to get its MPG up.

No inspections here in MN, surprisingly. I don’t see a lot of junker death traps, though. Lot’s of ‘****** with a heater’ types, though. I need one of those…

This cleaned up really nicely compared to how it looked before, and it is certainly more structurally sound than the rust bucket skid plate one on my KK now.

Car passed its control, not bad for an old car with 300,000 on the clock, the new control here is now
very strict. The check wheel nuts tightness and air pressure all good so very happy for another 2 years till the next.

Spray painting this yesterday and today... The satin black I'm using takes the shine out, but covers the scratches and dings well. Once this the painting is done, I'll be able to take an afternoon on some weekend coming up, and change the fuel pump, swap in the new gas tank hanger, and install the ASFIR skid plate. Of course I need a day where I have time, combined with good weather, combined with a nearly empty gas tank... What are the chances of the stars aligning?

I just checked and the max height on the gas tank hanger is between 12-13 inches tall. The clearance under the side of the Jeep is 15-15.5 inches from the rock sliders to the ground. Does this mean I can do all this work without having to jack the Jeep up? That would be amazing. It will work as long as the tallest part of the fuel tank is also under 15 inches tall.

My engine skid arrived yesterday. It is not a Liberty Skid. Stupid eBay.

Leveraged a military discount and ordered a Skid Row plate instead.

Anyone have one? Are they painted or powder coated? Description isn’t clear and tons of places interchange the terms for some reason.
