What did you do to your jeep today?

Of course it may not be you at all, I once lost a wheel because somebody had loosened the nuts while it was parked up. Fanciful? Not really, several owners of cars parked in the same street had discovered loose nuts.

My mate and I scored a couple of ex-traffic light trailers for a song. Right time/right place and legit. Very handy, just need to fab up a tailgate for mine. Question is, has anyone sourced a dropped/lower tow hitch? My jeep tows everything a tiny bit too high.

You can find them in just about every configuration. I use a 5 1/2” drop to level everything out. Some quick measurements will get you the drop you need.

I've a few trailers which are just a little bit nose high, including my horsebox, so lowering would help all of them. Plans for the trailer including hauling logs, jumbo bags of wood shavings for bedding and transporting a trials bike I have nearly finished building. Most of my other utility trailers are past their best and the suspension is shot. This will be far more presentable once I've got the road grime cleaned off. If I were to lift it my brother would steal it off me for an adventure trailer.

I've got a trailer made from the bed, frame and axle of an 80s GMC. The tongue is short and the height is good, makes for an awesome multi use trailer behind the jeep.

Wouldn't it be easier to put a bit of box section under the tow hitch? My boat trailer has had it done (not by me) and it sits at a nice height behind a 4x4 now.

I was suggesting the trailer side, hitch may be the wrong word for the female side of the coupling! My boat trailer has a beefy lump of box added between the trailer drawbar and the female coupling so it sits level on a taller 4x4.
It looks like your hook is well rusted in there!
My old jeep has a removable one, I'll get a picture of it next time I'm home. The one I'm using just has a massive lump of box section welded to the cross member.
I think the American style tow bar is very similar but with a different size ball ???

Yes it is a big fat pin. and the levers are some kind of quick release. completely dumbfounds me as to how it works. I think it must be held in by some kind of osmosis. I'm tempted to leave well alone. Can justify buying an entire new towbar to sort the issue.

Receiver is the word you want. The female receives the knob.

Today was a heat shield delete. It was 100% unattached and rattling around on top of the muffler. It would also contact the driveshaft intermittently and make a terrible noise.

Anyone ever have any problems after removing one of these?

One other question. I have a brake that squeaks incessantly when I am not on it. When I hit the brakes, the squeaking goes away. I would expect the reverse to be true if the brakes are getting low. Anybody have any experience with this?
