Tom is correct and they're wrong. By definition it is a coil over shock. I doubt we'll ever get the industry to change on that. But the rest of us should be smart enough to call it what it is.

Most manufactures list the KJ front coil over assemblies as struts, take Monroe for example. They list part number 171577L as a strut.
Though I don't know if being a part of MacPherson style suspension is the deciding difference between strut and coil over.
Been that way for years, started doing suspension work professionally in the 70s
remember when they started with struts and coilovers and its always been the same
with UCA's like ours its a coilover, without UCAs its a strut plain and simple

Celebrated the 7th anniversary of my finding this site. I bought my Jeep on May 11, 2013 and joined here on May 21, 2013. Don't know how I made it ten days without this place. :D

A big thank you to everyone here for all of your great advice and friendship for the past seven years.
Wow 7 years , doesn't seem that long

Got a little maintenance done, replaced the drivers rear o2 sensor finally, and got new tires mounted. Sits a little better with 245 70 16s on now.

I made a roof rack out of strut channel and rigid metal conduit this afternoon. I need to make some changes, ad some spacers, then paint it. Today, it worked for borrowing an extension ladder. I'll be posting up a thread with the supplies and measurements.

I haven’t been able to continue the work on my jeep replacing the rear UCA, because the new bolts still have not arrived. I literally paid almost 10 times the price of the bolts in shipping, and they didn’t get delivered Wednesday when they should have been here. I just got an email from UPS and they’ve now pushed my delivery out to Tuesday. I paid $3.70 for the bolts, and $32.04 for shipping.
This better be an amazing UCA for how much of a pain it’s been to deal with.

I would be interested to see your final pictures.

I ordered the aluminum Mopar roof racks when I placed my order for my 2002 Export CRD. Works well but each side has a lock on it so you can take the ends off....slide out the long rubber section and adjust the rail lengths by means of the supplied Security Torx Driver.

Problem is that you do not actually need the unlocking keys...simply pull up the rubber sections and remove the racks with a bought Security Torx Driver!o_O

Or simply take the mounting brackets with the rails using a normal Allen Key.

If your roof rack looks too neat you may want to thief-proof it!;)

Continued our maintenance work on our KJ. Today was rear shocks, springs, and brakes.

Front brakes and shocks are here, so they’ll be next.

I tried uploading a picture, but they're too big, apparently. I didn't know there was a Mopar option once upon a time.

I ordered my 2002 Export RHD CRD Manual in early 2002...I had just seen a few on the road here in SA.
I ordered the color I liked...dark Metallic green, Roof Rack, Rubber Mud Flaps for each wheel and Tow bar.

Took ages for it to arrive while the price kept rising...the Roof rack was Fitted as well as the Mud Flaps and tow bar when I picked it up.

The hollow aluminum cross sections of the Roof Rack is shaped much like an airplane wing.....the Dealers fitted the rails with the sharp end facing forward....the rounded end should have been facing forward like an airplane wing!

I carried many long large items on it as I was supervising the building of a new house here in White River...a 4 hour drive from Johannesburg where I lived at the time.

I also had a medium size Trailer so at times I had stuff on the Roof rack and a full Trailer!

I lost the one metal bracket that fixes the rack to the KJ rails so had to make a new one up...does not look too good but I have not used the roof racks for many years now and have sold the Trailer!

Ok, here's some pictures. I can rock the whole jeep without flexing any of the parts, it seems. It will get prettied up at some point.

Finally got bolts for the upper arm, bolts for the axle mount, and bolts for the counterweight. Tomorrow I can finally reassemble the back end and take it out for a spin. Very much looking forward to the upgraded and functional rear end again!
