Final big truck update …as of noon today …. Maya rides again !!!! :cool:

First impressions — The heavy duty Valair dual disc organic "street" and "quiet" clutch set up with strapped floater plate is definitely MUCH easier and MUCH quieter and MUCH smoother on engagement then the medium duty SBC Con OFE that I replaced EVER was.

The clutch pedal depresses with substantially LESS effort, despite the 3800# pressure plate, and all of the gears engage tightly but with zero of the grabbing, bucking or notchiness that I always had with the Con OFE.

Downshifting in any gear, even into granny, is also effortless with zero or minimal double clutching, as opposed to the Con OFE, which ALWAYS needed double clutching and even then would not engage smoothly most times.

While there is some noticeable gear rollover noise in neutral, there is zero floater plate rattle with the clutch depressed. FURTHERMORE, the extra attention that I payed to quieting down the transmission tunnel and reinforcing the original sound and heat blanket, is CLEARLY noticeable as the cab is much, MUCH quieter with the windows rolled up and even with them rolled down.

In short, I am mightily impressed with this Valair clutch and simply wish that I had installed it many years ago!!!

Obviously, I haven't towed with it yet (thats on Tuesday;)) and I am sure that it will continue to break in for awhile, but even after my short test drive, the clutch pedal is already becoming firmer but NOT harder.

Oh yes, the new stop/go pedals I installed are ALSO nice and grippy on my boots!!!

Win, win, win… :cool:

I put new rear brakes on and rotated tires, last night. Something’s up with the front left corner; that tire was pretty rough.

A new multifunction switch should be coming, today. I’m sick of my dome lights popping on randomly and not being able to control the dash brightness.

And of course got the freshly painted and modified skid plate installed with the 48RE/NV271 transfer case support bracket working the G56 transmission. :cool:

So you said adapter bracket, are you upgrading the transfercase?

Nope that transfer case support bracket is meant to support the NV271 when attached to a 48RE auto transmission and Ive got it adapted to fit the NV271 that is hanging from the G56 in my Dodge Ram. Involved drilling a single extra 3/4" hole in the correct location on my skid plate. ;)

Trying to figure out why my oil light keeps flashing on. The dipstick is dead on center, the oil is new as is the filter.

Yesterday took out for 100 mile, largely, scenic drive. 1st time it's been driven more than up & down the road the road since Christmas Eve, reminded how nice it is to drive, shame all I get to do is work on it.

Leent that the smoke wafting out from the right front wheel opening wasn't oil from the valve cover burning off, but the brake getting hot - so that's something else to look at, although it does seem to have fixed itself.

Finally got the replacement window regulator into place & all the bolts in place but then decided, for various reason, that was enough for one day.

Next stage is the controlled descent of the window to attach it to the "carriage" - hopefully. That was to be today's task, but I didn't really feel like it this morning, just as well, in the event, because I would've been in the middle of it when the few drops of rain turned into a torrential downpour.. Oh well, there'll be another day.

Sometimes the switch gets gunked up with sludge from extended interval (no) oil changes. It is easy to get out with the filter out of the way. I have pulled mine before and sprayed carb / brake clean in the port on the switch and a bit in the threaded hole. Cleared my flicker right up on one jeep, the other needed a new switch anyway.

Had the brake stick on mine, seal had split and let the outer edge of the cylinder rust and nip the piston ( weird, plastic pistons hard and brittle ). I bought a rebuild kit replaced the piston + seal and spent ages cleaning the bore... with hindsight a new half caliper is cheap so save yourself the hassle.

Not Had a chance to look at it yet but I'm suspecting it's just a sticky piston. I rebuilt a rear caliper on my WJ (when the smoke was the leaking fluid burning off hot brake parts) & the most difficult part was sourcing a kit that included a piston but when I had a problem with the KJ's voracious appetite for right rear pads, I replaced the caliper because it was silly cheap - but what's a 1/2-caliper (takes me back to when you had to split calipers to reseal them).

I will give that a shot - thank you!

I do change my oil way too often, though. I get the 7,500 - 10,000 mile stuff, but being an old guy I start getting nervous when I hit 3,000 miles on it, so out it goes. I even changed the oil and filter right after this started, thinking maybe I got a bad filter or something. But there could be gunking for other reasons, so worth a try.
