Drove out to the mountains for some hiking, something I have done every single Sunday since early July. It rained, which was not entirely unexpected. I was prepared, but things have had a habit of not working out too well for me lately...

Tried to help a guy who had slid off the road and buried his front-wheel-drive city car in the mud. He decided that maybe "I" ought to be the one to crawl under his vehicle in the mud to look for a place to attach my tow strap. I decided that maybe I would just stop and let the park ranger know instead. I don't mind helping people, but...

Then I joined the broken window regulator club. (Front passenger's side). I decided to just go on back and write the day off as another "well, you tried..." :emotions34:

I can understand that.
I didn't mind getting in the snow to help this one lady who was way out of her element in that snow storm last year (indian lady who was dumber than a bag of rocks when it came to how to drive in the snow. had my road completely blocked.) Mud however, especially after you dun fuked it up yourself, no way.

If he had been old, handicapped, or wearing a tuxedo on his way to a wedding I'd have gone for it. What mostly turned me off was his attitude that it was all the road's fault and he was just going to sit there until someone else saved his bacon. Since just sitting there waiting for someone to save his bacon was apparently what he wanted to do, I let him do it.

I need a metal fabricator to do a little project for me.

that's an image of one of the adapter brackets for my snow plow. I want to have a new pair made up that are longer, so I can run both the plow and the winch/backbone. I can get some better pictures of one of mine, detailing the shape of things and locations as well as the specifics of what I need lengthened. If anyone knows of someone in northern NJ or eastern PA and can give me a recommendation i'd appreciate it. Alternatively i know there's a couple people on here who fabricate, and if you'd be interested let me know, especially if you happen to have access to a shop that sells plow parts that would let you borrow one or both of the pieces to measure out.

Thanks!

yep. I'd have let him sit, too. plus I'd bet he'd be the kind to want to sue you if you pulled him out and something got tweaked or dirty or scratched or something.

He got stuck, not you. He wants to get unstuck, he gets muddy or he pays someone else to do it.

People seriously are stupid.

You'll put your eye out!

Good news, I sold the 3/4 ton Dodge Diesel today. That means the Jeep has a long time home.

I could probably add quite a number of people to the list of those I WOULD have helped. One type that would NOT be on it is a guy half my age who acts like he just expects it. Had he at least put on a good act like he had no idea what to do I might have done it anyway. I did turn around and drive ten miles out of my way to let the rangers know he was out there. By the time my window dropped and I gave up for the day I passed the tow truck coming to yank him and his POC out of the mud.

I've got one of those myself. It is in my bugout bag along with some other emergency gear.

You did right. You hook up to some car with no proper tow points and rip his axle off or something and they will say it's your fault. Now if it was a Jeep or p/u truck or something with proper tow hooks then you could safely strap it out and it's another thing. That was a job for a tow truck no matter what. No tow hooks, no strap. Call a tow. Not being mean, just my opinion.

Totally agree, I never hook to anything that doesn't have a proper tow point. Too much risk , used to be people wouldn't sue for stupid stuff. Now days you pull someone out next thing you're buying them a car. :ROFLJest:

Unless you get the"owner" to sign a waiver....
As your vehicle, description, plate#, location, is stuck & as good Samaritan, I am offering assistance, to attempt to pull out or recover your vehicle.
It is understood by the owner of the above said vehicle, that any damage that may occur to your vehicle, is not the responsibility of the good Samaritan, which is attempting to help you. Signed....by owner...
In other words, If your junk falls apart during recovery, it aint my problem!
